Frog City Stories endeavors to inform listeners of our community experience one story at a time.
Frog City Stories is an oral history project of the Willimantic Public Library that will collect, record, and make accessible stories from the people who live and work, both past and present, in Windham and Willimantic. Anyone with a Windham/Willimantic story is invited to contact the library to set up a recorded interview that will become part of the Willimantic Public Library’s audio collection. These stories will be searchable by subject and location through the library catalog. We are interested in recording all kinds of stories, including stories about school, work, immigration, the mills, disasters, special events, the river, and more. Anyone who would like to volunteer to work on recording or editing for this project can contact the library for further information.
In its pilot year, Frog City Stories is made possible by a grant from the Leo J. & Rose Pagneau Trust Fund and is supported by and modeled after the national oral history project known as StoryCorps®. Initial training was done by StoryCorps®, whose belief is that these stories will “remind us of our shared humanity, strengthen and build connections between people, teach the value of listening, and weave into the fabric of our community the understanding that every life matters. At the same time, the interviews we collect will serve as an invaluable archive for American voices and wisdom for future generations.” |
